Providing safe water to people living in a country dying from compromised and diseased water is the main focus of Hope 2 Liberia. Starting in 2005, six-months following a devastating 14-year civil war, teams from Muncie, Indiana began the mission of providing safe water to the Liberian people. With an infrastructure that was decimated (Liberia has the only capital city in the world that does not have a running water supply or electricity. The capital city, Monrovia, is home to more than 1.3 million people), Hope 2 Liberia initiated it's program of starting a Hope Center in each of the 14 counties (states) in the country of Liberia. Each Hope Center will be a center for safe water, a school, a church and a community center.Over the past several years, Hope 2 Liberia has handed out hundreds of the Sawyer Point Two filter systems and trained thousands of Liberians on how to properly use the system. Sanitation education is a vital component to the training process as well. Additionally, Hope 2 Liberia has installed several of the Sawyer 10” filters with great success. Presently, the filters are being installed at schools and supplying thousands of children with safe water.
