Our mission:To provide Sawyer filters to children throughout the world who don’t have clean water. The crisis:Living without safe water and sanitation causes water-related diseases and unnecessary deaths of young children, keeps children out of school, stops women from working, robs whole communities of dignity and traps families in poverty.*The facts:Clean water is a luxury that many of us take for granted. 783 million people do not have access to safe drinking water. Over 5,000 children living in impoverished areas die every day from drinking dirty water. Around 315,000 children under-five die every year from diarrheal diseases caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. That’s 900 children per day.Our Impact:For the past eight years, we have partnered with Smile Train to fund over 180 cleft palate operations. With no clean water available, operating puts the sick or wounded at risk of deadly infections. The problem lies greater when returning home where children drink from contaminated water sources. Our goal is to provide these families with a filtration system so that they can recover without the risk of infection. Our Goal:To take Sawyer water filters into countries that need them. With these filters, dirty water becomes instantly clean – and drinkable. Creating this type of filtration systems is simple: all you need are clean buckets (easily found in any country), a drill bit to make a hole, and the filter. One of these systems provides 100 children daily drinking water for five years.Your Help:The James A Masterson Foundation teams up with local smaller non-profits and government agencies to provide solutions to areas in need. Sawyer has generously offered a 3 for 1 special. You buy 1 filter, and it turns into 3 filters. We get to triple our impact immediately with your charitable donation. What started as a one-man project honoring his brother’s memory, has inspired other volunteers to distribute filtration systems in Tanzania, Ghana, Togo, Cambodia, Peru, Colombia, Bangladesh, India and Belize. Anyone who travels can help in a similar way and provide better lives for our children.*What we do-WaterAidAmerica. (n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.wateraid.org/us/what-we-do
